The seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are:
1. 'A Just Ruler...'
2. 'A youth who grew up in the worship of Allah...'
3. 'A man whose heart is attached to the mosques...'
4. 'Two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake, and they meet and part in Allah's cause only...'
5. 'A man who is called by a woman of beauty and position but he says: 'I fear Allah...'
6. 'A man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives in charity...'
7. '...A man who remembered Allaah in private and so his eyes shed tears..'
The Prophet Muhammed (s.a.w) said: 'If you knew what l knew, you would laugh little and weep much.' Narrated by Aboo Hurairah and Anas & collected in Sahih Bukhari
Volume 2 - Book 24 - Number 504
I will briefly go into detail on 3 of them which I feel is most relevant to us inshaAllah.
A youth who grew up in the worship of Allah
A person in his/her youth is most likely to fall into temptations such as zina, drugs and intoxicants as well as worldly distractions such as materialistic wants like fashion, games, etc. Therefore it takes great strength to avoid all this and indeed it is a blessing. Some people may even think “I’ll start praying when I’m older,” who knows if we will ever live to that? A well-known hadith in which Prophet Muhammad (saw) indicates ‘Take benefit of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied and your life before your death.’ [Hakim]
For those who think you have wasted your youth (I am guilty of that to some extent) make the most of the youth that you have left, it is debateable when we end our youth – some say 33 but nevertheless while most of us are still in our youth we should make use of our resources and make it count. Rather than spend our youth in the beaches of Spain under the shade of the umbrella for a mere few days – focus on spending our time so that we are in Allah’s shade for that 50000 years.
A man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives in charity
We all know how beneficial charity is for us. The Prophet (saw) says: “…Charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire…” [Tirmidhi] – and we know that water is one of the best ways to rid of fire. However in this case we are not talking about any old charity, we are talking about ones that are done in secret.
Those who spend their substance in the cause of Allah, and follow not up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury,-for them their reward is with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. [Quran 2:262]
It is human nature to seek praise of others, however this can be dangerous because its sin can erase the good deeds. As Muslims we must be humble and our deeds should have pure intentions behind this. However upon realising Allah’s (swt) reward being greater than any praise from people, one can keep donations anonymous more easily – Alhamdulillah we now are able to donate £s via the internet, just don’t mention your name. Or simply if you see someone poor in the street just nicely give him some money and leave quickly so nobody knows you did it. Maybe wear a mask, possibilities are endless!
A man who remembered Allah in private and so his eyes shed tears
The Prophet (saw) said, “O followers of Muhammad! By Allah, if you knew what I know, you would weep much and laugh little.” [Bukhari]
The Prophet (saw) and the companions (ra) – as tears express our fear of Allah’s Punishment and of our sincere love and awe of Him. But how often do we remember Allah in seclusion and are then moved to tears? Do we weep more than we laugh or is it the other way round?
Again these are just 3 of the 7. We should aim to be in at least one of them and let us pray that Allah makes us people of Jannah and under his shade during the certain Day of Judgement and save us from the punishment of Hellfire.
